Turn Your Old Jewelry into Cash - Village Jewelers of Gardiner will be at the Cohen Center on Wed., Nov. 2 from 9:30 to 1:00 offering cash for gold, silver, jewelry and coins. A Portion of the proceeds will go to the Cohen Center.
Free Chair Mini Massages - Sammee Quong will be here on Fri., Nov. 4, from 10:00 to 12:00 offering free 10 to 15 minute chair massages focusing on the head, neck, shoulders, back, and arms. A brief intake form must be completed. Sammee can answer your questions and discuss the many healing benefits of massage.
You, Me & the Paranormal - Have you had unexplainable psychic happenings or often wondered about the psychic world? Join Bill Lunt on Fri., Nov. 4 at 12:30 to learn about the universal energy field through dowsing, muscle testing, psychic drawings and the strength found only in the heart. Cost $5.00 per person. Please pre-register.
Hungarian Luncheon Event - Join Chef Bradford Slye on Tues., Nov. 8 from 11:00 to 12:30 for a plated and served meal featuring Hungarian Beef Goulash and Csipetke red cabbage with apples, roasted carrots, zucchini, stewed prunes, dinner rolls, salad bar, and Hungarian apple strudel. Cost is $9.25 per person. Reservations optional, open to the public. Walk-ins welcome.
Caregiver Support Group - The support group meets on Tues., Nov., 8 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. All are welcome. Call Becca at 1-800-282-0764 Ext. 127 for more information.
Cribbage Lessons - Learn how to play cribbage with Ken Morrison then join our Monday Cribbage games. The four-week session will be each Wed. from 1:00 to 3:00 beginning on Nov. 9. Cost is $10.00 for the four-week course. Registration is required by calling 626-7777 or stop by.
Veteran’s Day Luncheon - In honor of Veteran’s Day the Cohen Center is sponsoring a free lunch for all Veteran’s on Thurs., Nov. 10 from 11:00 to 12:30. This event is open to the public and is free for Veteran’s, those age 60+ or disabled $5.00; under age 60 $7.00. Guest speaker is Gerry Queally, a Captain in the U S Navy Reserves. Special musical performance by Arthur Pare and Emily Lagace. Veteran’s are encouraged to call 626-7777 to pre-register. Menu details listed inside.
Veteran’s Advocate Services - Conrad Edwards is available to answer questions pertaining to veteran’s services and benefits you may be entitled to, call 626-7777 to schedule your appointment for Mon., Nov. 14, 10:00 to 1:30. Please bring your DD-214 form.
“Simply Good Eating” Series - Jennifer McCarthy, Nutrition Associate of UMA’s Cooperative Extension will offer “Preparing Healthier Holiday Recipes and Desserts” on Tues., Nov. 15, at 1:00. Recipe cards, sample dishes, and recipe gifts in a jar will be part of this class. A “Recipe Gift in a Jar” will be a door prize! Participant fee: $2.00.
Homemade Bread Contest - Are you the best bread maker in Kennebec County? Calling all Bakers to rise up and bake some bread, for Thursday, November 17th is Homemade Bread Day. This contest is open to the public and breads will be accepted in three categories: Sweet or Short Breads, Grain Breads, and Breads from Around the World. Breads will be accepted between 7:30 and 11:30AM on Nov. 17th. Recipes must accompany the bread. You do not need to be present to win. Entry fee of $5.00 per person. Proper Foot Care for Diabetics - Join Meg McCroary, certified shoe fitter from EZ-Diabetic Supplies, for a free informative session about diabetic foot care on Thurs., Nov. 17 from 10:00 to 12:00. The talk offers important tips for people with diabetes on how to avoid potential foot problems. Please register.
Spiritual Healing with Reiki - Join Margo Callahan on Fri., Nov. 18 at 9:30 to learn about and feel the healing powers of Reiki. Reiki is good for the mind, body and spirit. This is a free event. Please register.
Is Your Home Cold & Drafty? - Join Mark Perry, a certified BPI Energy Auditor to see if a home energy audit and weatherizing your home can save you up to 40% on your energy bills. Mark will be at the Cohen Center on Tues., Nov. 22 at 12:30 to discuss the best practices for keeping your home warm. Cost is $1.00 per person.
Thanksgiving Goodies Available - Let us take the stress out of your holiday baking and prepare delicious homemade pies, rolls and our own pickles and relish items for your friends and family to enjoy. Stop by the Cohen Center for full details and an order form. Payment in full is due at the time the order is placed. Order pies by Nov. 18 and pick them up on Nov. 23.
