Environmental Activism 101
Local environmental activist Brian Robinson will explore everyday ways to promote sustainable resource management and to nurture the natural world in a presentation at the Camden Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. The program is co-sponsored by the Library and Mid-Coast Audubon Society, and is free and open to all.
Robinson is an environmental activist who has helped lead the green revolution as an outdoor educator, energy auditor, and community leader. He’ll share his experiences advocating for the environment through town government, local committees, and neighborhood groups, and offer tips for people eager to get involved.
“The choices we make have a real impact on our environment,” said Robinson, “and how we live sets an example for our children.” As an educator and father, Robinson has seen how readily children embrace the environmental movement, and he’ll offer suggestions for family activities that make a difference.
An energy auditor and vice president of Rockland-based Evergreen Home Performance, Robinson helps homeowners create dramatically more comfortable and energy efficient homes with smaller carbon footprints. “Our homes are the biggest investment most of us ever make, and they’re responsible for most of our individual energy use, too,” said Robinson. “When you realize that we have the opportunity to dramatically reduce unnecessary energy waste, improve our quality of life, and really live our values – now that’s environmental activism. A series of straightforward projects halved energy use at Robinson’s home, which was featured on the Northeast Sustainable Energy Associations Green Buildings Open House Tour last fall.
