The Penobscot Bay Rendezvous: Free Outdoor Movie Added to Festivities

From lobster pots and four-masted schooners to whitewater canoeing and seine fishing, step back in time to 1901 and travel through the decades as we explore Maine's nautical past. Through home movies, travelogues, silents and talkies we look at Maine's boats, freshwaters, harbors, and people. These moving image clips are focused on Maine's history and multi-dimensional relationship with the waters in and around the State.  A relationship ranging from working boatbuilders and lobstermen to tourists water skiing in our lakes and yachtsmen racing off the coast of Mount Desert Island.

Embark on this journey through the last century of Maine's maritime history, 8pm August 19th in the Camden Amphitheatre, as Northeast Historic Film, the Camden Public Library, and the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous team up to present a screening of In Our Wake: Maine's Maritime Heritage on Film.

The film is narrated by John K. Hanson, Jr. (publisher, Maine Boats, Homes, & Harbors Magazine), and was produced by Northeast Historic Film, a nonprofit independent moving-image archive, collecting and preserving motion picture film and videotape relating to Maine and northern New England.

The evening’s screening will be hosted by the Camden Public Library, an “anchor for the community”, in the open air Camden Amphitheatre on Atlantic Avenue. Over 20,000 people attended programs and concerts in the library and Amphitheatre last year! Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to sit on.

This film is one of the many activities associated with the three-day Penobscot Bay Rendezvous (August 18-21, 2011), Maine’s most anticipated sailing and power event presented by Wayfarer Marine and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding. Super yachts, to classics to performance racers, Picnic Boats and lobster yachts are invited to enter. Featuring daily races for sailboats and a Poker Run and Photo Pursuit events for powerboats, the participants will have access to both Wayfarer Marine and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding world-renowned boatyards and will be hosted each night at a different exclusive venue. Lobster bakes, barbeques, dancing and fireworks are all a part of the ticket. www.penobscotbayrendezvous.com
