Jackson town news

Sunday morning
A nice sunny day. I didn’t look at the temperature, so I will sit here and write and have a second cup of coffee. Got to sleep in; we went to the girls basketball game in Newport, they lost but played hard. Several have the flu, so they had to take breaks. The band was great, even though they are smaller than the one I used to go see when my nephew Dana was in it. He was in three different bands: regular, jazz and marching. It was always worth the trip. I remember taking mother to the Bangor Civic Center to hear them. Then, the ROTC presenting the flag, all in their uniforms, etc. Anyone who respects the flag would be impressed.
Before I forget
Before I forget, Jen Tibbetts called for a notice that on March 3 at 7 p.m., at the Jackson Community Center, the Jackson neighbors are having a variety show. For more information, call 722-4228. So practice singing, dancing, playing an instrument, maybe a skit, jokes, or a game for everyone to play — a question type thing. It's a cabin fever reliever.
Church
The Jackson Church is planning a celebration for the church, as it will be 200 years old in October. In Jackson History, it tells about it and when it was built. Marlene Thompson is working hard (as she does on any project) and she’d like to get the names of couples married at the church, as well as those baptized there. A lot of our records have been lost, so please help us. I’ve come up with many from pictures and have been over to look at some more today. Call Marlene at 722-3350.
New citizen
Our newest citizen, Liam McCormick, came into this world weighing a little over 5 pounds. He is the son of Jeremy and Devin McCormick, who live on Sullivan Road.
Turbines
Did you read the article on the turbines in Freedom last week? It was nice reading, also talked this week with someone who lives there.
Visit
Brother Robert had a nice visit with sister Shirley this week. Stopped by here for quite a while and visited Johnny (also sure Mark and Allyn visited; I know Chase got upset to see their luggage ready to load — he’ll miss them) before he and Sharon leave for Florida for several months in their lovely home there. He brought down pictures of it for me to see. Of course they, their son Jeff and his wife Laura and four grandkids live in Jacksonville.
Drunk driving
Did you see the program on drunk driving? They said that 11,000 are killed each year by drunk drivers. Glad the holidays are over.
Made newspaper
Marsha Falkner made the school paper this last issue; told all about her and who her mom and dad were (George and Debbie Faulkner).
They also talked about Tanya Hubbard and her 5 for 5 project in the Bangor Daily, Journal and the Maine Education paper. Hear she’s doing great.
Ice
Been watching ice-skating then hearing on the scanner about people falling on ice — quite a difference. Scanner is really busy, fire, snowmobile accident (a 6-year-old), suicide, etc., etc.
Tractor
Watched a tractor show yesterday. I guess it was said that there were 70 different kinds and a hobby for a lot. One was from Australia.
New electronics
What are us older ones going to do when all there is, is email, Twitter, Facebook, texting, etc. We will be more lost than we are now, about it all.
Did you see him?
See where Mitt Romney was in Port St. Lucie, Florida? Ha, Rodney, did you have him for coffee? What a mess this is. And we’ve got months more of this. Some will be so sick of it that they won’t even vote.
6 a.m.
Well, another week beginning with a storm watch for Wednesday. Think I heard maybe a bigger one coming our way. Did hear days are one hour longer — that’s OK.
Have a nice week. Ha, it’s February already. Give me a call if you have any news.
