Winterport Water District Honored for Efforts in Water System Operations

The Maine Rural Water Association recently honored the Winterport Water District as the 2010 winner of it's Most Outstanding Operations Award for water system operations. The award ceremony took place during the luncheon on December 7th at the MRWA’s 30th Annual Water & Wastewater Technical Conference, Exhibition & Meeting held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport. The Winterport Water District is a dual utility and operates water and wastewater systems along the Penobscot River in central Maine.

The water district has greatly improved the reliability and quality of its water system over the last several years. New wells, a modern pumping station, improved system controls and the replacement of much of the original 1895 distribution system piping has improved system efficiencies for the Districts customers. The District received several grants as well as low interest loans for its projects to help defray the cost to its customers.
