Waldoboro — Laura McNelly, floral designer at Shelley's Flowers and Gifts in Waldoboro, recently completed the class "Everyday Designs," hosted by the Teleflora Education Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Laura was the sole recipient of a scholarship awarded by the Maine State Teleflora Unit. Floral designers from all over North America attended the seminar to sharpen their skills and grow their design abilities.

While in Oklahoma, McNelly participated in four days of intensive hands-on design sessions. Taught by a widely recognized floral designer and instructor, Kevin Ylvisaker, AIFD of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Laura focused on creating interesting everyday designs using the latest techniques. Each student was taught how to add their own personal touch to their shop's floral gifts. Students also completed a series of floral assignments designed to give them insights into how to improve their design styles and increase their productivity. Laura, who is also a graphic artist, won the acclaim of the class with her floral notebook, depicting class lessons.

McNelly received a certificate of completion from Teleflora for her class participation and achievement. You can see Laura's artistic floral designs and others at Shelley's Flowers and Gifts in Waldoboro.
