African-themed art quilts by Amy Nichols and Alison Olds of Jackson are featuring in March in the Kramer Gallery of Belfast Free Library.

Belfast — An exhibit of African art quilts is on display through March in the Kramer Gallery of Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. The quilts were made by Amy Nichols and Alison Olds, who have been friends and co-creators for many years.

Living next door to each other on a scenic hilltop in Jackson, Nichols and Olds are longtime members of the quilt group Art Quilts Maine and have exhibited and sold their small art quilts in several shows. They have greatly enjoyed taking many classes and workshops with world-renowned presenters, even one from Africa.

For the last two years, the women have designed, created and sold beaded jewelry under the name Deer Hill Designs. They find many connections between the two art forms in their use of color, pattern and texture.
