Waldo — An Albion man was distracted by his phone in the moments leading up to a one-vehicle rollover crash that sent him to an area hospital with a head injury Saturday afternoon, May 17, according to the accident report at the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

The crash reportedly occurred when Andrew St. Peter, 18, of Albion was headed east on Waterville Road in Waldo when the 2002 Saab he was driving crossed the center line, hit two mailboxes and exited the roadway. The vehicle then struck a utility pole, shearing it off at the base, causing power lines to come down into the roadway.

The impact with the pole caused the Saab to roll over, after which the vehicle came to rest on its wheels. Due to disabling front-end damage, the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

The crash report stated St. Peter was distracted by his phone at the time of the accident.

Belfast Ambulance and Rescue transported St. Peter to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast to be treated for the head injury and cuts on his hands.
