Alive and Kickin’ With Music and Chicken
Jackson — Everyone and his or her grandmother is invited to join Jackson Neighbors for Alive and Kickin’ With Music and Chicken II Saturday, Aug. 31, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Jackson Community Center, 538 Village Road. Donations are welcome at this all-ages, BYOB event; all proceeds will benefit the Community Center.
The chicken barbecue dinner includes half a chicken, roll, corn, baked potato and a drink and will be served from 3 to 6 p.m. at a cost of $12, while they last. There will be live music all day, a children’s play area and Stone Fox Creamery on site serving up fresh ice cream.
The all-star lineup of bands and musicians this year includes The Rugged; Geology; The Class Machine; past and present members of Between the Lines; and Ethan Andrews, Jason Dean and Nik Cody. Those so inclined might consider performing themselves during the open mic hour; bring an instrument.
More about the bands
Between the Lines makes a welcome return to Waldo County as lead guitarist Steve Luce teams up with former band mates to get this party started, playing lots of classic rock favorites.
All three members of The Rugged hail from Jackson. Their original roots-rock songs feature foot-stomping, mind-engaging rhythms that leave listeners hungry for more.
Geology, a popular band from Orono, will make its Waldo County debut with music upbeat, bold and blue.
Bassist Cody and drummer Dean will join singer/songwriter Andrews to play “what 20 years ago would have been rock.” Andrews’ original songs are soulful and sweet.
The Class Machine is a powerful bass and drum/guitar duo, making music that makes listeners want to start a revolution.
In case of rain, the event will be held inside. Jackson Neighbors is a nonprofit working to improve the quality of life in Jackson, Waldo County, Maine and the world. Helping maintain and preserve the town’s community buildings is one way to do that. For more information, contact Jenny Tibbetts at 722-4228.
