All Kinds of Fisherman’s Mittens: Talk and Workshop by Robin Hansen at the Penboscot Marine Museum

Robin Hansen will bring her collection of mittens from around the world and speak on the history and traditions of knitting mittens and their importance to fishermen. She will teach the old-time Maine cast-on and help you to knit the mittens of your dreams, whether they be European or down home Maine. We will have Robin’s new knitting book Ultimate Mittens, and her book of Maine mittens, Favorite Mittens on hand. Bring your yarn and needles on Saturday February 2, 9 am to 4 pm.

Robin Hansen is a folklorist and mitten expert who has written articles on knitting for such publications as Interweave KnitsKnitter’s Magazine, and Vogue Knitting. She searches out traditional patterns and tests, clarifies, and modifies them to make them accessible to today’s knitters. She is the author of several knitting books. Robin lives with her family in West Bath, Maine.
