Belfast — An allegedly intoxicated Northport man was summoned on New Year's Eve after threatening to smash out windows in Belfast, police said.

Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham, said Ira H. Bailey, 31, was summoned for refusing to submit to arrest or detention and refusing to sign a summons after officers received information that an intoxicated man was threatening to break windows.

Officers attempted to track Bailey down to speak with him because the department had received a number of reports of vehicles and buildings that had windows shot out with a BB gun on the same day.

When officers tried to talk to Bailey, he took off and officers had to track him down, Cunningham said. When Bailey was eventually located he refused to cooperate with police and refused to sign a summons.

Cunningham said police do not believe Bailey was involved with the vandal who was shooting out windows with a BB gun because Bailey was on foot when officers spoke to him and he did not have a BB gun in his possession.
