This year begins in an auspicious manner. Something unusual is taking place. The New Moon will be on January first at precisely 6:14 a.m. We have not had a New Moon on January first since 1995, before that there was a New Moon on January first in 1976. It doesn’t happen very often! Our “New Year Resolutions” have potency for this year. With so many of us focusing our intentions on the same day, with the planets starting a brand new cycle on this day, we are given an extra thrust forward to achieve our goals. Jot down your goals for the year, and your “resolutions,” on this day.

January first the New Moon takes place at 6:14 a.m. with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Pluto all close together in Capricorn, and all in challenging aspects to Jupiter, Mars, Uranus. The conflict between small businesses making it or not and big corporations taking advantage of their power will be more obvious than ever before and the problems this has created. The year begins with a dynamic thrust forward to overcome personal resentments, anger, and stagnation. The entire year is about what takes place on this day and the intentions we set in motion. This New Moon, new year, is all about change, taking a stand for principles and more demonstrations for humanitarian rights. This is a NOT a calm mellow year. There is strife, tension and discomfort until we all get clear about what is most important and then stand for that and not settle for less. Toppled governments? Dictators being confronted? Yes, this is what the year of 2014 will be about. It’s just about impossible to be a couch potato this year.

January 1-2 the Sun is in a challenging aspect with Mars which brings about the need for action and can also signify conflict and danger.

January 1-3 Mercury and Venus are aspecting Jupiter which says that people are having fun celebrating, yet overdoing it. It’s likely that you will not be feeling well afterwards. Too much of a good thing is just too much. Having fun to relieve the tension is the underlying goal.

January 3-5 there is hopeful energy swirling about due to an aspect between the Sun and Jupiter. Don’t allow yourself to expect too much as you will be let down. Mercury and Venus are nicely aspecting Saturn saying you need to define your part in how you will make things better. We each have an important role to play in the symphony of Life. The New Moon on January first clearly points out this fact. We all are important contributors.

January 6-8 Mars in Libra is in an awkward aspect with Jupiter. This aspect brings about the urge to do too many things and end up resentful and exhausted. You’ve got energy. You’ve got goals. But, there’s too much to do. You probably ought to ask a friend to help you out.

January 9-11 the Sun and Venus are in a positive aspect with Saturn helping you to organize and follow the plan you’ve outlined for yourself. Friends are ready to help out and want to be able to be there for you. This aspect has to do with knowing who you can rely on and appreciating them.

January 11 Mercury enters into scientifically oriented Aquarius. More technology will come out to move us more quickly into the future of how things will be. Mercury remains in Aquarius until March 17. During this phase Mercury will be turning retrograde that is from February 6-28. The other thing about Mercury in Aquarius is that you tend to think more about the future and are apt to receive intuitive flashes of innovative genius which could become an invention to be patented if you were born with Mercury in a good aspect to Uranus, at birth.

January 12-13 if you are a music lover or one who is inclined to write music and lyrics… then put everything else aside and allow the fine aspect between Mercury and Neptune to guide you into an altered state of creativity. Also take time out to relax.

January 15 at 11:52 p.m. the Full Moon takes place. Hopefully you have already jotted down your new year resolutions for 2014 before 11:52 a.m. The Full Moon has some stable energies supporting you to move forward this year towards financial security. The Moon is in Cancer and the Sun is in Capricorn both nicely aspecting Saturn, the ruling planet of Capricorn. Saturn offers blessings of stability and security if you are willing to face reality straight on. This means seeking advice and the help that you need rather denying that you need some help.

January 15-16 Venus is in a conflicted aspect with Mars. “You can’t always get what you want.” That song be the Rolling Stones hits the nail on the head. Addictive behavior wants to take hold of you. What do you do? This could project itself into a conflict with someone you care about rather than dealing with the issues within yourself. You want MORE love and attention. Mercury is aspecting Uranus which can bring about intuitive flashes of ideas which need to be acted on.
