Presenters from the Oceanswide organization, based in Newcastle, Maine, offer first-hand knowledge about Antarctica on Friday, April 21 at 2:00pm. Discussion topics will range from science, technology, and engineering to shipboard work they have performed in Antarctica and the deep-sea. Oceanswide scientists work on research vessels around the world supporting science by using state-of-the-art deep-sea robotics as well as traditional methods of ocean sampling, with hundreds of years of proven success.
In-between treks to Antarctica and journeys to the deep-sea, the OceansWide team has been presenting at schools and libraries around New England since 2008. With their Animals in Antarctica presentation, they will share first-hand knowledge of whales, penguins, seals, seabirds, with a focus on humpback whales and Adélie penguins. Along with facts about these fascinating creatures and photos from their latest Antarctic adventure, they also include discussion about sustaining our oceans and fisheries for generations.
