Anne Josephine Atkinson
Anne Josephine Atkinson, of Belfast, passed away Aug. 4 at home surrounded by family and friends.
Anne was born on March 19, 1935, in Carshalton, Surry, England, to Eva Unger and Charles Goldsmith. She received her Registered Nursing Degree in Paediatrics from The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Brighton, Sussex, England in 1956. In 1981, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health from the University of Maine, and, in 1984, completed her Masters of Education in Counselling and Guidance from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz.. As a practitioner, she gained therapeutic experience through the Therapeutic Massage from Monterey Institute of Touch in Carmel, Calif., and extensive study with Dr. John Upledger at the Upledger Institute for Cranial Sacral Therapy. She was also a trained Reiki Master and energy worker. Anne was an active community person supporting many local environmental initiatives and providing healing opportunities for many.
Anne followed a life-long spiritual path. She was a consistent advocate of others’ growth through the practice of gratitude for life and one another. As a gifted artist, poet and healer, Anne touched and encouraged many wonderful people throughout her life, bringing comfort and healing.
Anne leaves behind four children Mark Atkinson, Claire Martin and her husband Jay Martin, Paul Atkinson and David Atkinson who all feel indelibly blessed by her life, her grace and her unconditional love. She also leaves behind four beautiful grand children Christina Perron, Amy Rushing and her husband David Rushing, Nicholas Perron and Nadia Atkinson, as well as two great grand children Payton and Kason Rushing to whom Anne was known as “The Great She!”
The family has requested donations to be made to the Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County at PO Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915.
Anne will be sadly missed by many individuals who feel thankful to have shared in her life. She will be closest to us in times of quiet reflection out in nature.
