Anthony’s latest at Frost Gully
Freeport — Frost Gully Gallery on Route 1 will open an exhibit of new and recent paintings by Jackson artist Janice Anthony Sunday, Aug. 25. The artist, who works in acrylics, will be welcomed at a reception from 4 to 6 p.m.
Anthony’s work has been shown in museums and galleries across the country including the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, N.Y., and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport. The content of her paintings lies beyond the visible features of woods and rocks and water, she said in an artist’s statement. The intention is to convey the sense of a place.
“Place and paint merge in a synthesis that is something new, apart from that which I originally encountered. A painting emerges from my meeting with it, and the place itself floats back away into the wilderness,” she said.
The show will run through Sept. 21. For hours and other information, call 865-4505 or visit frostgullygallery.com.
