Arts in the Park names 2014 Artist
Belfast — Scott Perry has been named the 2014 Artist of the Year for Arts in the Park, set for Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, on the waterfront.
Every year, the Arts in the Park committee selects an Artist of the Year from the many talented artists and crafts people who exhibit their work in the event. It is never an easy task. Perry's expansive, panoramic photos go that one large step beyond a painting or photo of a scene to encompass an entire vista, even more the eye can capture at a glance.
Perry spent a number of years as a freelance photographer, working for the Associated Press and the Maine Times. His photos appeared in many newspapers and magazines such as Newsweek, the New York Times, USA Today and National Geographic. His work was done mostly in Maine and he began to feel the call to get more into his pictures than a regular 35mm camera could provide. So he moved on to working with very specialized panoramic film cameras and digital cameras.
Perry travels throughout Maine, New Hampshire and beyond to create his art. His work includes photos of the Maine legislature in session, the main streets of small towns across New England and many of the scenic mountains of the area, as well as the occasional photo of a vista on a tropical island. He prints and frames his landscapes in his studio in Farmington, offering not only prints of his photos, framed, but also prints on canvas.
Perry will be at the 19th annual Arts in the Park in Belfast, along with 80 fine artists and artisans. There also will be continuous live music both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit artsintheparkbelfast.org.
