Aubuchon Hardware and Travis Mills Foundation join forces for fundraising
Aubuchon Hardware and the Travis Mills Foundation are working together during October to raise funds for the foundation, a nonprofit that is building a national retreat center in Maine for veterans and their families.
The partnership is simple: Visit any of the 17 Aubuchon Hardware locations in Maine — including the Belfast store — and make a donation to the Travis Mills Foundation. At the end of October, Aubuchon Hardware Foundation will match, dollar for dollar, every donation made.
Donations can be made in any amount; $40 is suggested, as this purchases one gallon of Benjamin Moore paint for the retreat center. The retreat center is currently more than 70-percent completed and entering the painting stage.
Funds from the partnership will cover the cost of 550 gallons of Benjamin Moore paint, additional construction costs, and support for veteran families attending the retreat center in 2017. The center plans to welcome its first veteran families in June 2017.
In 2015, the Travis Mills Foundation purchased the historic Maine Chance Lodge, located in Rome, Maine, originally built in 1929 by cosmetics pioneer Elizabeth Arden. The 10,500-square-foot lodge is currently being renovated and will become a fully handicapped-accessible retreat for combat-injured veterans and their families.
The Travis Mills Foundation will provide a week of recreation and adaptive sports programming at no cost to veterans and their families. Their time at the Maine Chance Veterans Retreat will provide the opportunity for veteran families to come together as they define their "new normal" after injury.
