Beer, pizza and a historic event
|Sep 01, 2014|
"On the first of September, the English we'll remember!" Sept. 1, 2014, marks the 200th anniversary of the occupation of Belfast by British troops during the War of 1812. Belfast will mark the anniversary with a talk, a walk, special beer and English pizza.
Please join historical society president Megan Pinette at 6 p.m. at Heritage Park at the public landing, for a bit of history, colorful anecdotes and a walk up Main Street hill.
Believe it or not, Alexia's Pizza is located at the site of the former Huse Tavern, the place where Belfast's chief magistrate Alvan "Toad" Edmunds met with the general in charge of the truce and occupation.
Commemorating the "rather uneventful" five-day British occupation, Alexia's is serving an "English" pizza special, and 3 Tides will have Marshall Wharf Brewing Co.'s "Bitter Truth ESB" on tap.
Our Town Belfast urges all to come and bring your flags!
