Belfast harbor master to address regional planning group

Belfast — Mid-Coast Regional Planning Commission’s fall meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, at Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave., with presentations on municipal harbor management, land conservation priorities, and intertidal stewardship opportunities.

A buffet dinner will be held from 6 to 6:50 p.m, with presentations following until 8:30 p.m. Speakers include:

  • Katherine Pickering, Belfast harbor master, who will describe harbor management and the challenges faced in balancing commercial and recreational marine uses.
  • Ian Stewart, executive director, Coastal Mountains Land Trust, who will discuss land conservation efforts underway in the region, long-term goals and priorities.
  • Darcie Couture of Tidelands Coalition, who will explain stewardship of the intertidal area and opportunities for municipal participation to assist in promoting healthy marine resources.
