Belfast Historical Society and Museum receives grant from Bangor Savings Bank
The Belfast Historical Society and Museum is pleased to announce that it has received a two-year grant from the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation to fund one of two summer interns at the Belfast Museum for 2014 and 2015. The Foundation has generously supported the Museum’s intern program for the last four years. The second intern is funded by support from the Belfast Historical Society membership.
With few exceptions, Belfast Museum interns have been carefully selected Belfast Area High School students, and are appointed for two-years, with one new and one returning. This summer’s interns are Kristine Mehuren, who has returned for a second year, and Will Hyland, both from Searsmont.
The Belfast Museum Summer Intern Program was initiated in 2002 and has proved to be extremely valuable. Interns enable longer Museum hours and participate in all aspects of museum operations. They conserve and catalog collections, greet visitors, give tours and, according to museum curator Megan Pinette, “generally make themselves indispensable. We simply can’t do without our interns.”
The Belfast Museum, located at 10 Market Street, is open for the season. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information see our website at Belfastmuseum.org or call 388-9229.
