Belfast — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Belfast Area High School boys tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: Keith Holland, second year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 6-6, 13th in Eastern Class B. The Lions failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors David Flood, Ben Flood, Logan Mitchell, Peter Brunette, Asa Lewis, Sven Bendlin, Gustavo Mendez and Eduardo DeSaPinto; junior Tanner Luther; and freshmen Nolan Wood and Brendan Bruns.

Known graduation losses: Gabe Alex, Tyler Martin, Dakota Wing, Kenan Mahmic and Pietari Turunen.

Significant impact players: Mitchell, David Flood and Lewis.

Team strength: Athleticism.

Team goal: To get better every time they take the court.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills, Waterville and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Outlook: The Lions will look to get production from Mitchell, David Flood and Lewis, the trio occupying the team's three singles slots, but Holland maintains a “wait-and-see” attitude on the rest of the student-athletes, some of whom are great athletes but coming out for tennis for the first time.

“They're getting better each time they go out [on the court],” Holland said. “But it's good to see the kids getting better. We will see [how things go].”
