Belfast — Families packed Church Street in front of City Hall for a chance to speak to Santa and sing carols during the annual tree lighting Saturday, Dec. 7.

As part of the annual event, Santa arrived courtesy of the Belfast Fire Department to visit with children. At 5 p.m., one lucky child was chosen to help Santa throw the switch and light up the city's tree for the holidays.

Following the tree lighting, local songstress Kristen Burkholder lead those in attendance in a variety of carols. Instead of singing entire songs, Burkholder sang only the first few verses of the songs before moving onto a new holiday tune.
