Belfast man accused of assaulting youth at skate park
Belfast — Police summoned a 48-year-old Belfast man after he allegedly assaulted a juvenile at the skate park Monday, Aug. 5.
Edward J. Gotham was charged with the offense after police responded to Washington Street at 6:24 p.m.
"Edward [Gotham] assaulted one of the skateboarders down there because Edward suspected he had done something that Edward did not appreciate," said Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden.
McFadden said Gotham thought the youth was either giving or sharing illegal substances with someone Gotham knows, and that's why he confronted him.
McFadden said neither the youth nor Gotham required medical attention as a result of the brief altercation.
Gotham is scheduled to appear at Fifth District Court Tuesday, Sept. 17.
