Belfast — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Belfast Area High School golf team:

Coach/years coached current team: Chip Lagerbom, 20th year.

Last year's record/playoff information: Finished the regular season 0-12. Belfast shot an 18-hole, four-golfer stroke total of 418 and did not qualify for the state Class B championships.

Roster: Senior Josh Adams; juniors Alex Fritz, Doyle Bailey and Parker Lafrance; sophomores Jessica Clapp, Katy King and Hunter Merchant; and freshmen Zach Alden, Alexia Sweet, Madison Hemingway and Charlie Lagerbom.

Known graduation losses: Grant Starrett, Logan Mitchell and Peter Brunette.

Significant impact golfers: Fritz and Alden.

Team strengths: Positive attitude and good work ethic.

Team goals: To continue to improve each day and improve on last year's record.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Outlook: It may be another tough season, in terms of team record, for the Lions, but there are reasons to be optimistic for both this season and the future. Fritz and Alden likely will lead this year's squad in terms of talent, while Bailey, Adams and Clapp “are returning team members who are expected to help make us competitive in the league," the coach said.
