Appleton — The "5K For Darcy Blethen," a 3.1-mile walk/run event on Appleton Ridge, attracted 150 participants — with 57 of them being timed — on Saturday morning, Oct. 8.

The event was held in support of Darcy Blethen and her family. Blethen is in Austria receiving treatment for metastatic breast cancer that are unavailable in the United States, said Billie Jo Philbrook, organizer of the walk/run.

"The community of Burkettville and surrounding areas are rallying to support [the Blethens] as this is a very costly trip that could potentially save [Darcy's] life," Philbrook said.

Lillie Vitelli, 59, finished with the fastest time across the course in 20 minutes and two seconds. Matthew Tilbury was the first male finisher in 20:29.3. He placed second.
