Briana’s Barbies at Circling the Square

Oct 10, 2012
“Sitting Barbie” by Belfast artist Martha Briana is part of the show she shares with Jeffrey Chapman at Gardiner’s Circling the Square Press.

Gardiner — “Muses,” an exhibition of linocuts, woodcuts, lithographs and monoprints, will go on exhibit Friday, Oct. 12 at Circling the Square Fine Art Press, 275 Water St., to run through Dec. 1. The two-person show features work by Martha Briana of Belfast and Jeffery Chapman of Gardiner, recipients of the J.W Robinson Trust Scholarship. There will be an artists’ talk and reception Friday, Oct. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Briana and Chapman are inspired by images and issues particular to women. Chapman will be showing his current work, Medusa & Co, a female-centric array of escapist fantasy pieces; and Briana will be exhibiting works playfully inspired by the all-American Barbie doll.

Their artists’ talk is free and open to the public. For more information, visit circlingthesquarepress.com.
