Bruce 'The Colonel' MacLaren
Bruce Martin MacLaren, Colonel USMC, 82, died Feb. 26, 2014. He is survived by his son Richard MacLaren and his wife Julia, his son Robert MacLaren and his wife Kathleen, his sister Joyce Wolfe, and his grandchildren Paige Phariss, Cole MacLaren, Anni MacLaren, and Henry Roberts. He is a graduate of North Providence High School in Rhode Island, received a bachelor’s degree from Norwich University, and received a master’s degree from the University of Maine. Col. MacLaren served 30 years in the Marine Corps, including a tour in Viet Nam where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
The Colonel resided in Belfast from 1984 until 2006. While in Belfast, he participated on the Water Aquifer Committee, the Comprehensive Planning Committee, Literacy Volunteers, Belfast City Charter Commission, Waldo County Law Enforcement Agency, American Legion, Marine Corps League and MSAD #34 School Drop-Out Committee, and was Ward 1 city councilman as well as a substitute teacher for the Belfast school district.
