Busline League soccer kicks for midseason success
Busline League middle school soccer has been bustling with activity of late with many games taking place in the boys, girls and coed divisions.
Coaches of middle school cross-country, football, field hockey and soccer can report game results to Courier Publications by emailing email@example.com or call 594-4401, extension 116.
The following is a recap of reported soccer results:
Searsport 5, Oceanside 1
At Thomaston Sept. 26, the Vikings bested the host Mariners by four goals.
Connor Kneeland recorded a hat trick for the winners, while Liam MacMillian and Ben Powell also creased the net.
Camden-Rockport 5, Medomak 0
At Waldoboro Sept. 26, the Schooners sailed to victory over the Riverhawks.
Marshall Merrian scored three goals for CRMS, while Wyatt O'Brien added a score. Adam Bifulco, Eric Glaser, Elliot Matlack and Devin Winslow all added assists.
"Tristan DeVault had a great game tonight at the sweeper position," sad Medomak coach Tenley Libby. "The midfielders also put in a lot of time down in the defensive end to help clear shots out."
CRMS coach Dwight Pitcairn said he would like to see "better passing and decision making" from his team.
"I am very happy with the players work rate, commitment and sportsmanship," he said. "Medomak lost a lot of key players last year and they are a much smaller team this year. They have some good players and I was very impressed with how they never gave up."
Troy Howard 3, Oceanside 2 (2 overtimes)
At Belfast Sept. 25, the Lions bested the visiting Mariners in overtime.
Landon Nichols, Finn Gibson and Finn O'Malia all tallied goals for Troy Howard.
Searsport 2, Medomak 0
At Searsport Sept. 25, the Vikings tallied a pair of second-half goals and prevailed over the Riverhawks.
Connor Kneeland and Liam MacMillan scored for the hosts, while Charlie Spiegel played his first career game in goal for Searsport. The Vikings led 11-3 in shots.
Medomak coach Tenley Libby said her team benefited from "a good defensive effort from Jon Luce, Kevin White in goal and Tristan DeVault, along with a tag team of substitute."
Troy Howard 3, Medomak 2
At Waldoboro Sept. 23, the Lions picked up a one-goal win over the host Riverhawks.
Finn O'Malia tallied all three goals for Troy Howard, while Joey Horovitz scored both goals for Medomak.
Riverhawk coach Tenley Libby said Colby Willey and Jensen Willis “played a great game,” while Brent Steward and Wyatt Post turned in “strong performances.”
Camden-Rockport 1, Searsport 0
At Searsport Sept. 23, the Schooners sailed to a one-goal win over the Vikings. The score was scoreless at halftime.
Wyatt O'Brien scored, on an assist from Elliot Matlack, for CRMS.
Lucas Boetsch made five saves in goal for CRMS, while Searsport's goalie, whose name was unavailable, made 15 saves. CRMS led 24-9 in shots.
“Searsport had a strong, compact defense and they close down on the ball very quickly which forced our players to shoot from farther out than usual,” said Schooner coach Dwight Pitcairn. “Their keeper was also outstanding and played extremely well. Overall I was pleased with our team's performance especially the work rate from the midfielders.”
Oceanside 3, Searsport 1
At Thomaston Sept. 26, the Mariners picked up a two-goal victory over the Vikings.
Lauren Miller, Gabby Simmons and Molly Spencer all creased the net for the winners, while Cassidy Boynton and Emilee Clough added assists. Angela Rogers scored for Searsport.
Oceanside held a 25-3 edge in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Mariner assistant coach Todd Boynton said the team "showed great communication and teamwork throughout the game," also noting top-notch performances from Casey Pine and Mackenzie Murray.
Searsport 3, Medomak 2 (OT)
At Searsport Sept. 25, the Vikings dispatched the visiting Riverhawks in overtime.
Talia Willis and Cassi Smeltzer scored and tallied assists for Medomak, while Addie Jameson made eight saves in net for the visitors. Information for Searsport was unavailable.
Oceanside 3, Troy Howard 0
At Belfast Sept. 25, the Mariners sailed to a three-goal win over the Lions.
Cassidy Boynton scored two goals and Mackenzie Murray one for Oceanside. Murray also had two assists and Lauren Miller one in the win.
Anna Thorbjornson made five saves in goal for the visitors.
Camden-Rockport 5, Searsport 1
At Searsport Sept. 23, the Schooners jumped to an early lead and never trailed, sailing to victory over the Vikings. Camden-Rockport led 2-0 at halftime.
Sarah Contento netted three goals for Camden-Rockport, while Abbey O'Donal and Claire Pierce also scored for the visitors. Mikaela Alley scored the lone goal for Searsport.
Coach Robbie Krul said both the Searsport keeper, whose name was unavailable, and CRMS goalie Amelia Tausek “were outstanding and made sure that the teams stayed competitive for the majority of the time.”
“The Camden girls had some very good passing at times and moved the ball around really well,” he said. “Their controlling midfielders Sarah Contento and Samantha Zwecker worked tremendously hard for the team and secured their strong shape throughout the game. Camden’s attacking players Emelia Brawn, Hannah Walker, Sunny Conlan and Abbey O’Donal provided the strong offense.”
Medomak 3, Troy Howard 2 (OT)
At Waldoboro Sept. 23, the Riverhawks outlasted the visiting Lions in double overtime.
Hallie Kunesh, Maddy White and Cassi Smeltzer scored for Medomak, while White added an assist. The names of goal scorers for Troy Howard were unavailable.
Hattie Watmough and Addie Jameson combined to make 14 saves in goal for Medomak.
Camden-Rockport 10, Troy Howard 1
At Camden Sept. 19, the Schooners had no trouble with the Lions and prevailed by nine goals. CRMS led 6-1 at halftime.
Leading the Camden-Rockport offense were Eve Gutheinz (5 goals, assist), Kassandra Krul (3 goals, assist), Eliza Roy (2 goals, 2 assists), Abbey O'Donal (2 assists), Sarah Contento (assist), Claire Pierce (assist) and Sam Zwecker (assist).
June MacIntyre scored the lone goal for Troy Howard.
Lincolnville 5, Appleton 1
At Appleton Sept. 25, the Lynx had no trouble with the host Wildcats, picking up a four-goal victory.
Kris Kelly netted two goals and added an assist for Lincolnville, while Ionut Gerhardt added two goals; Matt Czuchra, one goal; and Bump Kibler, one assist. Information for Appleton was unavailable.
Hope 5, South Bristol 0
At Hope Sept. 23, the Hawks soared to win over the visitors.
Camren Bagnall scored three goals, while Bryce Tyler added two goals and Laticia Billings one assist for the Hawks.
