California couple bagged in connection with car burglaries
Swanville — A burglary investigation in Swanville Thursday morning, June 28, led to the arrest of a California couple who were also wanted in connection with recent vehicle burglaries in Searsmont.
According to the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, police arrested 37-year-old Paul Munster of Aptos, Calif., and Laura Petty, who is also believed to be from the Golden State.
The couple were charged in connection with the motor vehicle burglaries after a series of events that began just after 11 a.m. Thursday, when WCSO Detective Jason Bosco was conducting an investigation into a recent burglary of a home in Swanville. As part of that investigation, Bosco went to a residence on Stream Road in Monroe.
"When he arrived, he spotted two people running into the woods," stated the July 2 news release from WCSO.
Bosco reportedly recognized the individuals as Munster and Petty. The two were reportedly wanted in a recent rash of motor vehicle burglaries in Searsmont, incidents that the Maine State Police were in the midst of investigating.
A Maine State Police K-9 unit responded to the scene and eventually located the two suspects in a wooded area near the residence.
"A search warrant was obtained for the residence where the two were residing," stated the WCSO release.
The search warrant produced items stolen from the Swanville residence and the Searsmont cars. Police recovered personal items such as identification, mail and credit cards from individuals around Waldo and Penobscot counties.
"The investigation continues and it is believed that these individuals will be linked to additional recent criminal activity," stated the release.
