Call for ‘Maine Autumn’ art

Aug 17, 2012

Damariscotta — River Arts invites submissions for its upcoming exhibition “A Maine Autumn,” to run Sept. 14 to Oct. 11. Works in any style are welcomed, from abstract to precisionist, exploring any aspect of autumn including activities, people, work and play, wild and domestic animals, food, seascapes, landscapes, holidays, sports, moods and seasonal signs from bright October to bleak November.

Entries in all media are encouraged including sculpture, photography and assemblages. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work should not exceed 40 inches in any dimension; for safety reasons, Plexiglas should be used for work larger than 34 inches, excluding pastels.

The juror for this exhibition is artist Carol Jessen. A native of St. Louis, Jessen has summered in the Boothbay area for more than 30 years. A prize-winning artist specializing in watercolors Jessen enjoys painting regularly in Maine, St. Louis and Florida and also teaches popular watercolor workshops in all three locations. Her work can be seen at Gleason Fine Arts in Boothbay, the Birdsnest Gallery in Bar Harbor and the St. Louis Artists’ Guild.

Drop-off dates for art work are Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early submissions are accepted during the gallery’s normal hours. Calls to arrange early hours are welcome. Work should be dropped off at the downtown River Arts Gallery, 170 Main St.

Artists may submit up to three works for an entry fee of $20, $15 for members. Submitted work may not have been exhibited at the gallery previously.
