Campaign "Giving Thanks"
Dear friends and neighbors,
These photos, taken within a block of my Dad's home on the South Shore of Long Island, bear witness to the immense physical devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. It also explains the urgency all of us at Planet feel to help alleviate the human suffering of the thousands who have literally lost everything - home, furniture, car, the irreplaceable artifacts of a lifetime - and the tens of thousands more struggling to stay in their homes without heat, light, transportation or communication. Power in the hardest hit coastal towns may not be restored before January.
Planet will contribute 10% of gross sales in our Rockland and Camden stores this weekend to the relief effort.
In addition, between now and Thanksgiving, for every new Facebook 'like' on our Camden or Rockland Planet pages, we will donate $1 to the Red Cross. This is our way of 'giving thanks' to all those willing to support the larger "community" in such a trying time. We hope our Facebook fans will share our status, send our emails, and ask their friends to join the relief effort.
And we urge everyone to donate generously to the Red Cross (see link below); this is the most direct and efficient route to assistance, since 100% of Hurricane Sandy Red Cross funds go directly toward storm relief.
The one bright spot in this terrible tragedy has been the extraordinary and heroic performance of volunteers, sanitation, firefighters and police officers, the men and women of the National Guard and FEMA in support of the ravaged communities of Long Island and the Jersey Shore. Their acts of selfless courage, sacrifice and solidarity, and your generous donations, are what is keeping hope alive for thousands and will ensure that the approaching holidays are truly a season of light for all.
With many thanks to each of you and all of you-
Richard and Kit Aroneau, and the Planet working community
