Carol Francis (Dean) Hersom

On Jan. 10 Carol Francis (Dean) Hersom, 69, surrounded by her family, peacefully passed into eternity. She was born in Portland on Sept. 2, 1944, the daughter of Derwin and Catherine Dean. She graduated from Belfast High School in 1963. Carol married the love of her life, Myron Hersom on Nov. 8, 1963. They celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage this past November.

Carol lived a life full of family, friends and community. Not only was she a loving wife and mother, but an active select person, school board member, ambulance attendant, and an active member of the North Searsport United Methodist Church. She worked for more than 20 years as a secretary for the Anah Shriners in Bangor.

Carol was a talented, creative woman who enjoyed the outdoors. She loved time spent fishing and hunting with her family. Carol’s gifts of cooking, painting, knitting, and sewing filled our lives with pleasure.

Carol is survived by her husband Myron E. Hersom Sr.; four children Myron II and his wife Susan, of Gray, Darin Hersom and wife Jennifer, of Swanville, Constance Hersom Ethier and husband Richard, Heidi Hersom Laiche and husband Russell, of Spotsylvania, Va.; two sisters Susan Foresman and husband Tom, Barbara Knowles and husband Trevor and one brother Paul Dean and wife Susan. She will be greatly missed by 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Paulette Clark and one daughter-in-law Elizabeth Elwell Hersom.

The family thanks the staff of Waldo County General Hospital and the Waldo County Home Healthcare and Hospice for their gracious care. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main Street, Searsport. A funeral Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Searsport Full Gospel Church, East Main Street, Searsport, with Pastor Elizabeth Bailey-Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Union River Cemetery in Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the North Searsport United Methodist Church Building Fund In Care of Dean Hustus P. O. Box 169 North Searsport, ME 04974.
