The Belfast Free Library Chess Team recently held a round-robin tournament in the Abbott Room at the library to end the spring season, and parents of the players used a fair amount of culinary creativity when it came to providing refreshments.

One parent, for example, made a chessboard with pieces made completely of dark and white chocolate, while another used green and red grapes and strawberries to craft the pieces and game board.

There was no decisive winner in the tournament, but all participants walked away with a Belfast Chess visor. Russell Kahn coached the team, and Jane Thompson acted as team manager.

"We would like to thank Pizza Hut, Bayside Store and Alexias for donations to the event," said Kahn in a recent news release. "We hope to start the next fall chess season the week after Labor Day, please check your local newspaper."

The Belfast Free Library chess members are: Isobel Kelly, Julia Kelly, Ilianna Kahn, Tara O'Donovan, Deavyn O'Donovan, Patrick O'Donovan, Ethan Suderly, Morgan Suderly, Henry Saggese, Max Eastham, Cole Castro, Ronin Deschamps, Corey Deschamps, Josh Chung, Sawyer Carson, Tanner Carson, Emmeline New, Jack McCormick, Rex Radford, Kirk Stillman, Sydney Sanders, Chase Sanders, Jasper Lawten and Dawud Zaki.
