Church group to gather Christmas gifts for overseas children

Jun 24, 2012

The Ladies Group of Abundant Grace Ministries in Searsmont will take part in Operation Christmas Child, a program sponsored by the Samaritan's Purse organization.

Each year around Christmas time Samaritan’s Purse blesses children overseas with a shoebox filled with gifts and other small things that bring a smile to a child's face. Yes, Christmas seems to be months away, but we all know how fast it comes. Each shoebox is made specially for either a girl or a boy and can include things such as: small toys, school supplies, personal hygiene supplies, hard candies and even a personal message to the child. About $7 is needed to ship these boxes overseas. Anybody can create their own shoebox and drop it off or even donate the supplies and have the ladies group create one, either is encouraged.

This year the ladies of Abundant Grace have a goal of donating 200 shoeboxes, which will bless 200 children who might never have had the chance to open a Christmas gift; a simple pleasure for most of us.

In order to do so they have planned a Christmas in July benefit dinner, and will be seeking both money and item donations from local businesses.
