CIFF screens ‘Shored Up’ at Unity College

Surfers greet the sun in “Shored Up,” a film by Ben Kalina.

Unity — CIFF Selects and Unity College will present a free screening of the documentary film “Shored Up” Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at the Unity College Center for Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers led by Camden International Film Festival founder and executive director Ben Fowlie.

“Shored Up” is a documentary that asks tough questions about our coastal communities and our relationship to the land. What will a rising sea do to our homes, our businesses, and the survival of our communities? Can we afford to pile enough sand on our shores to keep the ocean at bay? In Long Beach Island, New Jersey and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, surfers, politicians, scientists and residents are racing to answer these questions. Beach engineering has been our only approach so far, but is there something else out there to be explored? Our development of the coastlines put us in a tough predicament, and it is time to start looking for solutions.

CIFF Selects is an outreach program of the Camden International Film Festival, recognized as one of the top 25 film festivals in the world for documentary films and filmmakers. For more information, visit camdenfilmfest.org.
