Cinderella Project of Maine receives donation from the Mid Coast Board of Realtors

Apr 10, 2014

The Cinderella Project of Maine was recently the recipient of a donation from the Midcoast Board of Realtors.

Lori Cobb, Cinderella fairy Godmother and local realtor mobilized other local realtors through “miniature” fundraisers throughout the year, culminating with a walk-a-thon last June. Cobb was presented with the check at the year-end Christmas party and was so happy to see such a generous amount. “This donation will help us to serve more girls as they prepare for their special day,” said Lori Cobb.

Because of the donation, The Cinderella Project was able to apply for a matching grant from the Maine Association of Realtors. That request was granted, but due to their strict guidelines was passed on to the Housing Department at Waldo Community Action Partners. “We are happy to be able to “pay it forward” by passing on this housing-specific grant to the Housing Department here at WCAP,” said Tabitha Lowe, community projects manager for Waldo CAP. “It really will make a huge difference for repairs that aren’t covered in their usual funding,”

The Cinderella Project of Maine was formed in 2006 and has held its giveaway at the former Waltz Pharmacy building in Renys Plaza for the last three years. For years, new and gently used prom gowns have been collected from folks all over the country. The gowns are given away to any girl in need — all totally free, with one stipulation: recipients must “pay it forward” and do a good deed for someone else. There is absolutely no cost for any of the dresses, jewelry or accessories. Dressing rooms will be available to try on gowns, and Cinderella Project staff and other community volunteers will be on hand to assist with the selection process.

Dresses and donations can be dropped off at a number of sites around the state. Please see www.cinderellaprojectofmaine.org to find the one nearest you. Additional pick-up locations can also be arranged based on need.
