Court Appeal Dining Offer
Thank you to all of our local supporters and fans who have watched the Camden Harbour Inn and restaurant Natalie’s grow and evolve since our purchase of the property in 2007. This year the building is celebrating its 140th Anniversary and we are proud to be the current caretakers of this special place.
We were honored to earn the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber’s Beacon Award in February. The Beacon Award is in recognition of a business or organization that has attracted significant positive regional or national attention to the Penobscot Bay region, resulting in a rise in economic activity for the local business community. We are proud to be a member of this community and look forward to many years of supporting all the area’s businesses.
However, the process has not been entirely smooth. As many of you know, we, the owners of Camden Harbour Inn, along with the terrific design team at PHI Home and Design, have worked closely together on a plan for the Camden Harbour Inn to add an additional 10 rooms, upgrade our restaurant and kitchen facilities, and expand our spa services. We worked within the existing zoning ordinance and received approval by the zoning board.
Unfortunately, our neighbor Susan Bryant, local attorney, also according to the Camden Code Enforcement Office, a recent owner of a bed and breakfast property and a current member of the Penobscot Bay Chamber of Commerce Board, has filed a Court Appeal, hoping to block our expansion plans. We believe we have worked in good faith to create a plan that would fit within the current zoning. In fact, we participated in an additional planning board work session to make sure we were operating within those guidelines. Oscar and I have operated our inn and restaurant with our neighbors and community in mind and our expansion reflects our commitment to the neighborhood. We further believe the expansion would improve some of the neighbors’ concerns, such as parking and traffic flow.
The Camden Harbour Inn has become a destination in itself, attracting guests who might not necessarily have chosen Maine, or Camden for their vacation. The property has been featured in press around the world, highlighting the region to a new audience. We need to be able to compete with similar properties in the USA and beyond. This expansion will allow us to be a front runner in the ultra-luxury market and will ensure we continue to attract a highly desired international niche market. This year we are welcoming guests from Japan, Dubai, Australia, Italy, The Netherlands, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and many more countries in addition to our many, many American guests. We believe our affluent guests provide a boost for the local economy. We know some of them have even become members of this beautiful community.
We have received an overwhelming amount of support in the past week and are thankful that many of our neighbors would like to see the Inn expand and be in a position to be able to continue to promote Camden as a unique and world-class destination.
As a special thank you to all our supporters, we are offering a $25 per person discount on our 3-course dinner with wine pairing with a pre-dinner cocktail, our Down East Magazine Award Winning “Pine-Tini.” This offer is only available for guests not filing a court appeal against our expansion and is available until April 30, 2014, excluding taxes and gratuity.
