Curatorial, education internships
Searsport — Penobscot Marine Museum is looking for summer interns for the 2014 season in the Education and Curatorial departments. This is an excellent opportunity for students to acquire hands-on experience in museum collections management and in developing educational programs.
The education interns will work with museum staff to develop and implement programming for children. They also will be trained to give museum tours, lead art workshops in exhibit galleries, host museum speakers and staff offsite museum venues.
The Curatorial intern will work directly with the Collections Manager in all aspects of exhibit management including hanging and historical research. The intern will be trained in PastPerfect collections management software; will assist Collections Manager in special projects, which may include research, conceptual design and travel to identify potential loans for the 2015 exhibit; clean and maintain objects on exhibit; and organize storage.
