Dangerously cold wind blows on Midcoast

Jan 22, 2014

Gray — The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties through 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The advisory also includes Kennebec, Sagadahoc and Androscoggin counties.

Gusty winds are combining with very cold temperatures to create dangerously cold wind chills Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. From the capital region to the Midcoast, wind chills of 20 to 29 below are likely.

Such low wind chill values will result in frost bite or lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Those who must go outside should dress in layers, keeping all skin and head covered. Steps should be taken to protect livestock from the cold, and pets should be brought inside.
