Danny Wilbur Hotham
On Saturday, March 1, 2014, Danny Hotham went to join his Lord following a brief illness at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Danny was born on May 30, 1949 in Belfast, Maine, the son of Wilbur Hotham, Jr. and Thelma Tower Hotham. He grew up in Freedom, Maine attending local schools and graduating from Mount View High School in 1967. He attended Southern Maine Technical College for Automotive Technology. After completion of this program he worked at the Maine DOT garage in Bangor, Maine.
Danny eventually returned to Freedom to work with his family on the family potato farm and in the woods. He owned his own wood harvesting business for a few years before settling into a truck-driving career. Danny worked for several local owner operators including George Cole, Carl Robbins, Richard Hodges, Dick Belisle, David Parmenter, and ended his long-haul truck-driving career with Ronald Lee. He truly loved driving over the road and meeting up with his follow truck drivers at various truck stops or pick-up and delivery locations. He was part of a unique brotherhood that he cared deeply about.
On Jan. 12, 1974, Danny married Judy Parmenter of China, and they recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Together Danny and Judy raised six children and Danny found himself involved in a wide variety of activities with his children. For many years during the summer months he trailered four of the children and their horses to shows around the area as they competed in these horse shows. Danny also coached Little League and 13-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball in China and he helped two of his sons as they raced their stock cars at racetracks in Unity, Bangor and Wiscasset. Danny thoroughly enjoyed participating in and attending all the activities that his children were part of, and when his grandchildren started arriving he found great enjoyment watching them participate in dance, band, sporting events, art projects, cheerleading, Boy Scout programs and drama programs.
Danny's favorite pastimes include family gatherings, John Wayne movies, George Jones music, auto racing and college basketball. His favorite basketball team this year was Syracuse.
Danny was predeceased by his father, Wilbur Hotham, Jr; grandparents, Wilbur and Mattie Hotham and Cleveland and Helen Flagg Tower; father-in-law Fred Parmenter; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; also two special friends, Sherwin Wellman and Carlton Hodges.
