Delaware man falls asleep at the wheel, vehicle goes airborne
Palermo — A Delaware man avoided injury after his vehicle went airborne before crashing into a ditch.
Deputy Jordan Tozier of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office responded to the single-vehicle crash, which was reported at 4:42 a.m., July 28, in Palermo approximately 212 feet south of the China town line, according to the crash report.
Christopher Clendening, 20, of Middletown, Del., was driving east on Route 3 in a 2011 Chevrolet passenger car when he fell asleep and the vehicle traveled off the roadway before striking a driveway embankment. Clendening's vehicle then went airborne about 35 yards before coming to rest in a ditch, Tozier stated in the report.
The vehicle was towed from the scene due to disabling front end damage. Clendening was not injured in the crash.
