Dirigo Toastmasters inspire in Rockport
Rockport — Frank Carr, Patricia Powers, Bob Ferland and Tom Dowd, all members of the Dirigo Toastmasters Club in Belfast, will present a collection of short inspirational speeches Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.
The event, dubbed A Night of Inspiration and Transformation, is co-sponsored by Rockport Public Library and Thomas Dowd Professional Development & Coaching. It is free and will be held at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St.
The hour-long program will feature motivational messages from a group of people looking to hone their public-speaking skills while sharing their extraordinary stories with the local community. The speeches promise to warm hearts with motivational messages titled “Rising Above Perceptions,” “Looking in the Mirror” and “Living to Die, Dying to Live,” along with stories about Special Olympic experiences such as “Better, Stronger, Braver,” “Everybody Has a Dream” and “The History of Special Olympics” from past and present Maine Special Olympic athletes and volunteers.
Award-winning speaker and author Thomas Dowd will have a book signing immediately following the event for his recently published
books “The Transformation of a Doubting Thomas: Growing from a Cynic to a Professional in the Corporate World” (a 2012 New England Book Festival Honorable Mention) and “From Fear to Success: A Practical Public-speaking Guide.” A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Special Olympics of Maine.
