Do you have knee pain?

Maybe it is IT (Iliotibial) band syndrome?

Iliotibial band syndrome or ITBS is a leading cause of lateral knee pain and it can also cause hip or outer thigh pain.

The IT band is made up of a strong, thick fibrous band of tissue, attaching at the hip, running down the anterior thigh and attaching just below the knee joint. It helps stabilize the knee joint during movement.

When this band gets irritated or inflamed it causes pain and is referred to as Iliotibial Band Syndrome. There can be many causes such as tightening of the IT band, muscle imbalance, over-use like in runners or faulty body mechanics.

The issue of ITBS can be treated with physical therapy to reduce pain. Teach stretches and strengthen muscles of the hip and knee to prevent re-injury.
