Downeaster issues video challenge

Portland — The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority has announced The Reel Experience Video Challenge. NNEPRA is asking Amtrak Downeaster riders to videotape and/or photograph their Downeaster travel experiences onboard and in the station communities to create a 2-2.5-minute video for a chance to win prizes.

A total of four prizes will be awarded. Two Grand Prize winners — one for northbound travel and one for southbound travel — will each be awarded $1,000 plus two round-trip tickets between Brunswick and Washington, D.C., on Amtrak trains. The Student Prize for college students will consist of $500; two round-trip tickets between Brunswick and Washington, D.C., on Amtrak trains; and a GoPro® HERO3 White edition camera. The People's Choice prize, to be voted on by the public on the Amtrak Downeaster website, will be the same as the student prize.

Video submissions are due by noon Thursday, May 9. Voting will take place May 29 through June 16, and winners will be announced on June 17. NNEPRA will own the rights to all submitted footage and may use some of the material in upcoming marketing and promotional campaigns.

"We are really excited to see what is important to our riders and how they use our train," said Natalie Allen, marketing director of NNEPRA. "We have spent years relaying the amenities of the Amtrak Downeaster and giving our riders suggestions of how they can use the train. We can't wait to see the Downeaster experience from our riders' perspective."
