Northport — A Lincolnville woman was taken to Waldo County General Hospital, July 26, after she was distracted by a deer and crashed into a tree in Northport.

Waldo County Sheriff's Deputy Cody Laite responded to the single-vehicle crash, which occurred at 9:24 a.m. on Rocky Road. According to the accident report, Winnifred M. Libby, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet passenger car east on Prescott Hill Road when she was distracted by a deer on the side of the road.

Libby failed to see a stop sign and drove through the intersection of Prescott Hill Road and Rocky Road.

Her vehicle traveled a short distance down an ATV trail located on the eastern side of Rocky Road before it struck a large oak tree, the accident report states. The force of the impact with the tree caused the vehicle to rotate more than 90 degrees clockwise before coming to a rest.

Libby was taken to Waldo County General Hospital for treatment after complaining of foot pain. Laite estimated Libby's vehicle sustained about $10,000 worth of damage.
