Belfast — The drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Belfast during the early afternoon hours of June 30 escaped serious injury.

Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said Karen Hodgdon, of Waldo, was driving south on Route 1 in a Chevrolet Impala shortly after 1 p.m. when she came upon a vehicle attempting to turn left onto Tozier Street. Hodgdon was attempting to pass the vehicle on the right when she lost control and struck a Ford Fiesta driven by Ed Gowens who was heading north on Route 1.

Hodgdon was taken to Waldo County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Belfast Ambulance, Fire and Police responded to the crash that reduced traffic to one lane while crews worked to remove the vehicles. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The Ford Fiesta sustained significant front end damage and the Impala sustained damage to the front end on the passenger side.
