Belfast — “Duet: Kathy Weinberg & Jeffrey Ackerman,” a show of painting, sculpture and photography, will open Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Betts Gallery. An opening reception Friday, Aug. 29, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. will be held in conjunction with BelfastArts’ Final Fridays Art Walks.

Weinberg and Ackerman previously have shown in New York, Germany and Maine; this is their third show together in the span of three decades. Working in a wide range of media —painting, photography and three-dimensional works in wood, stone and bronze — allows the artists to express similar ideas in a variety of materials. Their art examines the expressive properties of each medium and the process that each one demands; forms are discovered as much as they are created. Their sculpture has a classical modern structure that also references the archaic.

Weinberg’s work includes painting, sculpture and photography; and work combines vibrant color combinations, sepia tones and reflections to enhance the theatricality of mysterious and cryptic content. Ackerman is a painter and sculptor whose work depicts psychic or metaphysical dramas incorporating naturalistic, architectonic and geometric forms. They are both greatly influenced by their careers in antique and architectural restoration, including several historic period room installations at museums including the MFA in Boston and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Together they run a company specializing in conservation and restoration of antique furniture and architecture.

The two-person show will run through Sept. 20. Betts Gallery is located at The Belfast Framer, 96 Main St. There is a second gallery entrance on Beaver Street.
