East, West squads earn split in annual Senior BowlMount View's Milani tallies two goals; Alex, Warren, Bean also invited to participate
Hampden — The 18th annual Maine Soccer Coaches' Association Senior Bowl Nov. 11 at Hampden Academy did not disappoint those making the trek north, with both games decided by one goal.
The boys game saw the West earn a 6-5 victory over the East, while the girls contest saw the East pick up a 3-2 win.
The boys game was decided with 12 seconds remaining off a corner kick by Windham's Tyler Defosse, on a goal netted by Greenville's Tristan Richards.
Falmouth's J.P. White, who scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in a 2-1 win over Camden Hills in the state Class B championship game Nov. 3, netted two goals in the win, while teammate Grant Burfiend also creased the net along with Richmond's Eddie Stewart and Greenville's Henry Hersey.
For the East, Mount View's Lorenzo Milani had a pair of scores, while KVAC Class B player of the year Gabe Smith of Winslow added one goal, along with Hampden Academy's Cooper Antone and Jeremy Miller of Bangor Christian.
Only three goalkeepers attended the game, so all three — Searsport's Austin Bean, Kennebunk's John Burns and Hall-Dale's Sam Shepard — alternated between both teams.
In the girls game, Bangor's Grace MacLean had two goals and Central's Max McHugh one for the East, while Falmouth's Cassie Darrow and York's Kayla Swasey scored for the West.
Camden Hills' Kristina Alex and Vinalhaven's Ryann Warren were among the Midcoast female student-athletes invited to play in Sunday's game.
