Elizabeth Anne Minor

Mar 17, 2014

Elizabeth Anne Minor, 64, of Belfast, Maine passed away peacefully from complication of pneumonia on March 13 at Waldo County General Hospital. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Betty Scully) and Donald Minor or Parsippany, N.J. and the sister of the late Autin J. Minor of Vermont. She graduated in 1967 from Parsippany High School and in 1972 from Syracuse University with a degree in fine arts. She held a Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.

Her marriage to Robert William Walsh ended in divorce. She is survived by her sister-in-law Joanne (Myra) Luce of Florida.

After and extensive career as a design architect with many of New York City's Fortune 500 companies, Elizabeth retired to Belfast in 1997. As a devoted student of history and architecture she brought the home she purchased in the historic district of Belfast back to its days of glory, including replacing the tower that had been removed.

Elizabeth quickly added to her passion for design and architecture a passion for keeping Belfast a vibrant place to live. In all she did, she brought her professional experience to bear on city development. She served as unpaid consultant to the library board in hiring an architect and working with the general contractor throughout the library construction and renovation. She served for 16 years on the city Planning Board and was the driving force behind the establishment of the city In-town Design Review Committee. She also participated in advocacy organizations such as Belfast First. City Manager Joe Slocum wrote of Elizabeth, she "selflessly gave much of her time to preserving the long-term character of Belfast through difficult discussions over land-use regulations. Elizabeth has left a legacy to Belfast that will be appreciated by its citizens for generations to come."

Per Elizabeth's wishes there was no funeral or memorial service.
