Emergency crews on scene of Route 1 crash

Belfast — Police, firefighters and ambulance attendants are at the scene of what was reported as a two-car crash on the Route 1 off-ramp near Renys Tuesday afternoon, May 27.

Initial reports stated the crash involved two vehicles, and that one rear-ended the other. It is unknown how many occupants were in the vehicles at the time of the accident, or the severity of any injuries they may have incurred.

Officers with the Belfast Police Department and the Waldo County Sheriff's Office responded, as did the Belfast Fire Department and attendants with Belfast Ambulance and Rescue, who called for the Jaws of Life upon reaching the scene.

Traffic coming off the Veterans Memorial Bridge and traveling toward the city was reduced to one lane.
